Workplace harassment, sometimes called mobbing , is unethical and needs prevention. Historical prevalence figures in the source article have not been checked here and should not be treated as current rates.

The source also gives historical figures for Mexico and references Spanish law. Current legal requirements and prevalence should be verified separately for the relevant jurisdiction.

Humiliation, offensive behavior, and abuse of power can seriously affect the person targeted. Claims about specific health outcomes require individual assessment by qualified professionals; burnoutand other forms of distress should not be self-diagnosed from a blog post.

People experiencing harassment may be afraid to report it because of retaliation, ridicule, or job loss.

Organizations should consider these psychosocial factors and adopt a Code of Ethics that treats concerns fairly. A reliable program includes reporting channels, training, monitoring, and a clear case-handling protocol.

Recognizing workplace harassment

A healthier climate depends on understanding how repeated, harmful conduct can appear at work. Not every disagreement is harassment; investigate the pattern, circumstances, and impact.

Examples include:

Ignoring or excluding someone

Blocking communication, dismissing suggestions, or repeatedly excluding a person from meetings they should attend.

Sexual harassment

Unwanted sexual comments, messages, advances, or requests for sexual favors.

Withholding recognition

Repeatedly minimizing achievements or criticizing a person's work unfairly.

Intimidation

Threatening messages or damage to someone's belongings.

Undermining a person

Blaming them for others' mistakes, exaggerating errors, or spreading harmful rumors.

Mockery and humiliation

Insults, shouting, discriminatory remarks, or assigning tasks in a way intended to degrade or overwhelm someone.

Abuse of authority

Using a position to threaten dismissal, deny rights, or otherwise harm someone unfairly.

Prevention starts by identifying situations in which harassment may arise. Practical steps include:

1.    Identify warning signs. Pay attention to interactions among coworkers, supervisors, and teams.

2.    Inform and train employees. Explain that rumors, humiliation, exclusion, threats, and other harmful behaviors are not acceptable.

3.    Show people how to get help. A reporting channel can provide confidential or anonymous options. It must also be backed by fair review and protection from retaliation.

People may tell a manager, human resources, or the ethics hotline. The organization should be ready to respond in any of these routes and avoid actions or omissions that worsen the harm.
