What is NOM-035 for? This Mexican standard seeks to address risk factors affecting workers in the workplace.
Which risky activities does NOM-035 identify?
NOM-035 identifies workplace violence as acts of harassment, mistreatment of workers, and abusive conduct that may harm their integrity or health. The following are among the behaviors that may constitute workplace violence:
Psychosocial risks in the workplace
Harassment
Systematic, persistent intimidation—including discrediting, insults, humiliation, belittling, exclusion, indifference, destructive comparisons, rejection, restrictions on self-determination, and threats—can constitute workplace harassment and damage an employee's dignity or integrity.
Psychological harassment
This refers to harassing acts that affect an employee's psychological stability and cause ongoing stress, which may impair productivity and performance.
Abuse of authority
This is the exercise of power in a real relationship of subordination between the victim and aggressor at work, expressed through verbal or physical conduct, or both.
Non-hierarchical harassment
These are repeated actions by a person or group against someone else that torment, wear down, frighten, or discourage them through treatment that repeatedly provokes, intimidates, ridicules, or causes unjustified psychological or moral harm at work.
Mistreatment
This includes repeated, persistent insults, mockery, humiliation, or ridicule of a worker on more than one occasion.
